“…COPs in vitro were five times more cytotoxic than POPs (Meyer et al, 1998). This was also shown in other studies in which higher concentrations of POPs (120 μM) were required for the same cytotoxic effects of 60 μM of COPs (Adcox et al, 2001;Maguire et al, 2003;Roussi et al, 2005;2006;.…”

“…The implications of POPs in atherosclerosis, neurodegenerative processes and other chronic diseases are still unknown. However, they have been associated with cytotoxic and pro-apoptotic effects (Meyer et al, 1998;Adcox et al, 2001;McCarthy et al, 2005).…”

“…Therefore, compound 3 was established as 2,16-dihydroxyl-15-keto-2-acetoxy-ent-pimar-8(14)-ene-16-O-β-D-glucopyranoside. The known compounds sitost-5-en-3β-ol acetate (4) [12], β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (5) [13], 3,5,6-trihydroxysitostane (6) [14], stigmastane-3β,5α,6β-triol-3,6-diacetate (7) [15] were identified by comparison of their spectroscopic data with the literature values.…”

“…In our studies for allelopathic constituents from plants of Taiwan, 1 -3 we report in this work on the isolation of isomeric sitosterol epoxides from the ethyl acetate fraction of R. formosanum leaves: 5,6˛-epoxy-5˛-stigmastan-3ˇ-ol (1) and 5,6ˇ-epoxy-5ˇ-stigmastan-3ˇ-ol (2) (Scheme 1) along with 16 known compounds. 5,6-Epoxysterols have been isolated only once from photoautrophic cell cultures 4 as a mixture in the ratio˛/ˇ4 : 1. There is no report for 13 C NMR ofˇ-isomer and 2D NMR of both isomers in the literature to the best of our knowledge.…”
