On the Coordination Behaviour of the hmta Toward Alkali Metal Cations in Presence of Perchlorate Anions

Abstract: The lithium and sodium perchlorate coordination compounds with hexamethylenetetramine of general formulas:and [Na(ClO 4 ) (H 2 O)(hmta)] n (2) have been synthesized, characterised by elemental and thermal analysis, IR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. The compound 2 is a rare three dimensional hybrid compound. The obtained compounds are air stable at room temperature and well soluble in water. As a result of the different electronic properties of the ions, the compounds differ considerably in the molecul… Show more

“…Only small blue shifts of bands corresponding to scissoring and wagging CH 2 vibrations, and bending NCN vibrations are observed. These shifts originate from involvement of hmta molecules in O—H•••N hydrogen bonds, which are stronger than C—H•••N hydrogen bonds existing in pure hmta . The formation of one or two coordination bonds by hmta in 2 – 5 leads to differentiation of energy of CN and CH oscillators, which reflects in multiplication of the majority of hmta bands (to doublet, triplet or even quartet) in the spectra of these compounds .…”

“…The absence of the considerable shifts of bands involving non-coordination N atoms of HMTA (e. g. bending NCN vibrations) is caused by a lack of strong or medium strength D–H···N hydrogen bonds. 50 , 51 Blue ( 3 ) and red ( 5 ) shifts of bands assigned to stretching symmetric and asymmetric vibrations of carboxylate anions methyl groups originates from a different environment of each anion in a crystal net and consequently different vibration freedom of these groups. The hydroxide anion is represented in a spectrum of 3 by a typical broadened band with a maximum at about 3447 cm −1 , caused by the stretching OH vibrations.…”

“…The copper:hmta ratios in synthesized compounds directly reflect the reaction stoichiometries. While controlling the metal: ligand ratio in the solid state using the reaction stoichiometry of the substrates is generally known, the direct translation of a synthesis ratio into the solid product is not common in the case of hmta coordination compounds [ 18 , 19 , 20 ].…”
