My purpose in this chapter is to take seriously the idea that problem of evil is an incompatibility between the proposition that the world was created and is ruled by an omnipotent, omniscient and unlimitedly good being and one that says that there is evil and suffering in our world. Besides being in accordance with much of the literature on the problem of evil, this idea takes the problem at face value, that is to say, it sees it as a logical and incompatibility problem. More important than that, it allows for a comprehensive and elegant account of the key concepts involved in the debate: despite contrary appearances, the concept of problem of evil itself, the concept of argument from evil, the concepts of logical and evidential problems of evil and the concepts of theodicy and defense can be seen and defined from the standpoint of the same general idea about the problem of evil. That is basically what I want to show here.

This paper introduces a special issue on logic and philosophy of religion in this journal (Sophia). After discussing the role played by logic in the philosophy of religion along with classical developments, we present the basic motivation for this special issue accompanied by an exposition of its content. Keywords Logic. Philosophy of religion. Arguments for and against the existence of God. Analysis of the religious concepts. World Congress on Logic and Religion From a historical point of view, logic has been a constant companion of philosophical reflections about religion. Arguments for and against the existence of God have been proposed and subjected to logical analysis in different periods of the history of philosophy. A good example of this are the several versions of the ontological argument which appeared since Anselm's seminal work, the Proslogion, in the eleventh century, as well as the several kinds of logical scrutiny which they have been subjected to. Some of the greatest pre-twentieth century philosophers, including Descartes, Leibniz, Spinoza, and Kant, have either proposed or analyzed ontological arguments. Ontological arguments are of course just one type of theist arguments, albeit the best exemplar of a priori arguments for the existence of God. Other (kinds of) arguments of historical importance are cosmological arguments, moral arguments, teleological and design arguments, arguments from miracles, etc. From the perspective of atheist arguments, the problem of evil occupies a prominent place. Names such as Epicurus, Aquinas, Leibniz, Hume, and Kant have addressed it.

This essay proposes to address features of Time in Science and Philosophy then emphasize those findings in reference to Philosophical Theology, predominately in Theodicy. Those disciplines all have produced a number of longstanding and contrasting viewpoints regarding Time. Positions will be presented to emphasize incongruent standpoints in those disciplines to substantiate the concept that a new Philosophy of Time is needed and how that thinking impacts our understanding of the problem of evil or Theodicy. The predominant linear view of time obfuscates our understanding of Time and Evil. The Platonic concept of anamnesis is amended here as the preeminent concept of Time and also how Time as anamnesis pertains to Omniscience and the problem of evil. Time flows backwards not forwards. We are already completed but we unfurl in Time because we have forgotten how we freely chose ourselves. Omniscience knows this; we don’t remember and now live that forgetfulness. A Book of Life is written, we cannot recall our page number.
