“…Neutron scattering data (monomer-monomer structure factor) on the 590/43 copolymer sample at the same concentration (salt-free solutions) are reported in Figure 2 and are also well fitted by the form factor of a rod of constant nucleus radial density whose radius is found to be R mn = 0.69 nm (in agreement with previous neutron scattering measurements [7]) and of length 112 nm, in good agreement with the light scattering results. It is meaningful that R mn < R mx since neutron are mostly scat- tered by the carbon and deuterium atoms whereas Xrays mainly probe the SO − 3 group which is located at the outer fringe of the chain.…”

“…Small-angle X-ray scattering [5] (SAXS) and small-angle neutron scattering [6] (SANS) on DNA fragments, which are considered as rigid polyelectrolytes, confirmed the validity of the Poisson-Boltzmann approach for a rod. For more flexible polyelectrolytes like poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS), experiments also confirm the validity of the Poisson-Boltzmann counterion distribution around a rod but this holds only for a limited scattering wave vector window (between 1 and 3 nm −1 ) where the PSS chains can be considered as rod-like [7].…”

“…[1,2] The study of the interactions involving polyions, counterions, and co-ions has attracted many researchers in the field of polymer science. Experimental and theoretical studies on the structure of polyelectrolyte solutions have been undertaken using a wide range of techniques including light, [3][4][5][6][7] neutron, [8][9][10][11] andX-rayscatterings [12][13][14] aswellasmoremacroscopic techniques such as solution viscosimetry. [15][16][17] Scattering experiments carried out on these systems in absence of added salt (so-called ''salt-free'' solutions) show the existence of a broad scattering peak, which is sometimes called the Coulomb peak, at a certain scattering vector position denoted by q max .…”

“…Si les polyions s'apparentent à des cylindres de quelques Å de diamètre, les contreions condensés forment des tubes qui les enrobent. La fonction de structure partielle S cc met donc en jeu une contribution intra (facteur de [17][18][19].…”
