On the assessment of passive devices for structural control via real-time dynamic substructuring

Abstract: In this work the applicability of a dynamic testing technique known as RealTime Dynamic Substructuring (RTDS) for the assessment of passive control systems in seismic protection of buildings is analysed. RTDS is an efficient method for the assessment of dynamic and rate-dependent behavior of systems subjected to dynamic excitation at real scale and in real scenarios. To guarantee the validity and accuracy of a RTDS simulation, a stability analysis of the substructured system should be completed. In this paper … Show more

“…Section 4 includes the experimental testing of the proposed scheme, obtained by performing real‐time dynamic substructuring (RTDS) testing . RTDS allows testing components of a structure offering advantages in terms of cost and versatility while offering reliable results if a good control of the transfer system is developed . The results obtained from the RTDS tests suggest that enough power is generated so the proposed TMD/H is self‐tuning and self‐powered.…”

“…Real‐time dynamic substructuring is a versatile technique that allows both full size and real‐time testing of key components within the context of the whole structure . More details regarding the technical development of substructured tests can be found in . Under the substructuring setup, the EVA was physically built, while the host structure was simulated numerically.…”
