On Structural Aspects of Texture Changes During Rolling of Zr-2.5%Nb Alloy

Abstract: Using X-ray structural analysis, features of changes in characteristics of crystallographic texture during cold working of Zr-2.5%Nb alloy plates by longitudinal and cross rolling has been investigated. To make original plates, longitudinal fragments and rings of Æ15.0´1.5 mm² tube annealed at 580 °C were used. The plates were rolled at room temperature to the degrees in the range from 6 to 56% with 5…7% per pass and the rate of 5...10s-1. Using the method of inverse pole figures with measuring by the Bragg-Br… Show more

“…During extension, on the contrary, the metal layers on the convex side of the sheet undergo compression deformation, while the metal layers on the concave side of the sheet experience tensile deformation. Similar discrepancies were found earlier in the work [27] at the investigation of the crystallographic texture of Zr-2.5% Nb alloy strip. The strip was obtained by straightening part of the pipe after cut along axis.…”

“…The deformation processes are alternated when the sign of bending is periodical changed. Similar inconsistencies in the distribution of the pole density on the IPFs of the outer and inner sides of the strips obtained after cutting along the axis and subsequent straightening of the tube made of Zr-2.5% Nb alloy were found earlier in [16].…”

“…We could not experimentally measure the elastic modulus in the normal direction ND E to the rolling plane due to the small sheet thickness (1 mm). The value of the ND E in the original sheet of the ZE10 alloy estimated earlier us in [16] was 43.8 GPa. The value of the ND E obtained in this work (Table 6) deviates from the above value by 0.9% (Table 6).…”

“…This work is a supplement to the cycle of X-ray studies of regularities of changes in the crystallographic texture during cold deformation of zirconium and its alloys [1][2][3]. A feature of such works is the implementation of X-ray studies of rolling textures from their moderate level and the use of the method of inverse pole figures (IPFs) with an increased accuracy of determining the quantitative texture characteristics.…”
