On stable higher spin states in heterotic string theories

Abstract: We study properties of 1/2 BPS Higher Spin states in heterotic compactifications with extended supersymmetry. We also analyze non BPS Higher Spin states and give explicit expressions for physical vertex operators of the first two massive levels. We then study on-shell tri-linear couplings of these Higher Spin states and confirm that BPS states with arbitrary spin cannot decay into lower spin states in perturbation theory. Finally, we consider scattering of vector bosons off higher spin BPS states and extract f… Show more

“…Although such vacua may be rare in the string landscape, they would not only be relevant to the hierarchy problem, but could even yield observable signatures at the LHC or other colliders if M s were of O(TeV). These could include Z s from anomalous U (1) s [293], TeV-scale black holes [294], and various stringy excitations [295][296][297][298], including Kaluza-Klein states, winding modes, and Regge trajectories of higher-spin states. 28 For a general review, see [300].…”

“…4 It is worth noticing that, as shown for spin 2 in [76,77] and for arbitrary spins in [78], ST provides a solution for the case of constant EM background. See also [79,80] for an analysis of HS interactions in the open bosonic string and [81][82][83][84][85] for studies on scattering amplitudes of HS states in superstring and heterotic string theories. Other works on cubic interactions of massive HS fields in (A)dS can be found in [86,87].…”

“…According to the selection rules for the transitions mediated by Reggeon exchange, the totally antisymmetric rank-five tensor X is not produced at high energy in transitions from the ground state. The coupling for the state Z is 38) and in terms of δ ⊥ andq √ 2T µ;ραγ…”
