On some Opisthobranchs from Cananéia, Brazil

Abstract

Dez espécies de Cananéia e uma de Ubatuba foram colecionadas. Duas das espécies são novas para a ciência: Coryphella verta e Catriona oba. Elysia serca é comparada com E. clena Marcus (1970, p. 49). Os gêneros Cuthona, Trinchesia, e Catriona são discutidos.

First record of Flabellina dana Millen and Hamann, 2006 (Mollusca: Nudibranchia) in the South Atlantic Ocean

Recently, new species were discovered and described from Brazil (DaCosta et al 2010;Padula and Delgado 2010;Alvim et al 2011) indicating that the diversity is clearly underestimated.…”

“…The genus has over 54 species distributed in temperate and tropical seas (Millen and Hamann 2006). In Brazil, only four species are known: Flabellina dushia (Marcus and Marcus, 1963) from the region of Búzios, Rio de Janeiro state (García García et al 2008); Flabellina engeli Marcus and Marcus, 1968 known from Cabo Frio and Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro state to Arvoredo, Santa Catarina state (DaCosta et al 2007); Flabellina verta (Marcus, 1970) Description: long and extremely slender body, specimens length 6,0 mm (MZSP 99636) and 7,0 mm (MZSP 96480). Bilabiate foot with long propodial tentacles and tapered posterior end.…”

“…Species distribution ranging from the Caribbean Sea as far as the Brazilian coast is not novelty among marine organisms, with examples in cnidarians (Neves et al 2006;Neves et al 2008;Neves et al 2010) and reef fishes Joyeux et al 2001;Rocha et al 2005;Floeter et al 2008;Olavo et al 2011). Concerning nudibranchs, the similarity between the Brazilian and Caribbean fauna has been reported since 1970's (Marcus 1970;Marcus and Marcus 1970;Padula and Santos 2006). Flabellina dana is one more species in common between these two regions, being the present records important additions to the little known nudibranch biodiversity in northeastern Brazil.…”

Some aspects of the family Chromodorididae (Opisthobranchia: Nudibranchia) from Brazil, with description of a new species

“…The description of these specimens has similar features to that of Marcus (1970), but it is important to point out that her description is based on two preserved specimens. Ortea et al (1996) studied two animals which had a white mantle edge with black marks and a fine orange line that runs externally, and the white band was broken in front of the rhinophores, on the median part of dorsum and behind the gills by an orange band with black spots.…”

“…The dorsum in their specimens was orange with blue marks and black speckles, whereas the specimens examined by us have a yellow central dorsum with deep brown spots, an orange reddish band with brown and blue marks, and a yellow line within it with dark brown spots. Ortea et al (1996) examined specimens with three denticles on the second cusp of the lateral teeth, but we studied specimens with four or five denticles, whereas Marcus (1970) shows a figure of a lateral tooth with five or six denticles.…”
