With the different characters of datatypes and large amount of data going to be managed in open-source database, localization to the specific linguistics is the major concern in Ethiopia, as the nation used different datatypes compared to the Gregorian systems. In this regard Amharic localization in open-source database can handle the difficulties in managing data for governmental and non-governmental organizations. Amharic Extension Module was introduced to governmental organizations for the data management capabilities. But, there is no research that can explore the system’s quality, the users’ satisfaction and intension of continuance of Amharic Extension Module from the perspective of both computer literates and illiterates. Therefore, this research work attempt or try to empirically examine and analyze the system quality, the users’ satisfaction and intension of continuance of Amharic Extension Module from the perspective of all users in POESSA The major purpose/aim of this study/research is to brand or make up the research break/gap in the area of localization specific to the Amharic locals, and to show the implication of the practical and theoretical way based on the results of the research. For this purpose, questionnaires were used for the collection of the research data. A total of 395 copies of the questionnaires were distributed and 385 of them are collected without any problem from the organization indicated herewith. The statistical analysis tools such as SPSS and AMOS, and methods such as Structural equation model were used for the analysis of the research data. The results of the research recommended and suggested that system quality can significantly influence confirmation. Meanwhile, confirmation can directly and significantly influence perceived usefulness, performance expectations, and satisfaction. Additionally, performance expectation, perceived usefulness and confirmation can significantly impact/influence satisfaction. The satisfaction directly and most importantly and significantly influences the continuance intension. Finally, the research delivers/provides a concert indication for the legitimacy and validity of the integrated and combined models of UTUAT, ECTM, and D&M ISS in the field of localizations which can be a hypothetical and theoretical foundation for Amharic Extension Module—AEM users’ and services of it.

The software includes models of internationalization over the entire world. However, the localization work which has been conducted on Amharic locale development has limitations such as managing Ethiopian calendar and numbers. This has a considerable impact in managing the Amharic locale data in a database as well as in other software systems. Even though there are some researches reporting Amharic locale data is managed by the existing Database Management Systems/DBMS/, the data management way is noticeably exposed to error. However, these kinds of errors are handled in this research by introducing new and appropriate exception handling mechanisms. In this regard, it was not found in the literature review to overcome these problems. In this work, an Amharic Locale Extension module named am_ET was developed to integrate into an open source database environment. The most suitable open-source DBMS PostgreSQL and the C programming language were used. User acceptance testing was conducted to evaluate Amharic locale extension functionalities based on the ISO 9241-11 usability testing attributes, such as user satisfaction, effectiveness and efficiency. To validate it, 35 voluntary potential users were randomly selected to participate in the usability test of the developed system. A descriptive statistical analysis and percentage method had been used to test the collected data. Accordingly, the usability test result showed that a positive opinion for the users and developers to manage Amharic local data as it easily manages data formatted to suit Ethiopian locales system such as currency, calendar, and data/time, reduced costs for developers, and better understanding of product functionalities. Consequently, the developed Amharic locale extension solved problems of data management with Ethiopian locales. The paper found that integrated extension module is helpful in localization and design application areas for all entities that are using Amharic locale in open source databases.

Professor i litteraturvitenskap ved Stockholms universitet og høyskolelektor med ansvar for teologiske kulturstudier ved Newmaninstitutet i Uppsala. I sin forskning interesserer hun seg for hvordan litteraturen fungerer ved ulike grenser -mellom språk, folk og nasjoner, mellom kunstarter og medier. I 2016-2021 deltar hun i forskningsprogrammet «Världslitteraturer -kosmopolitisk och vernakulär dynamik» med et delprosjekt om Konstantinopel rundt 1900 som en flerspråklig litteraer verden.
