On research subsystems and their integration in the computer-supported part of hospital information systems

Abstract: Taking as an example the special research programme ('Sonderforschungsbereich') in leukemia research and immunogenetics (SFB120) of the University of Tübingen, we intend to discuss how research subsystems should be built up, which functions they should take over and which network architecture is suitable. Furthermore, we examined to what extent research subsystems can be integrated in the computer-supported part of hospital information systems. It can easily be seen that no general solution exists for the stru… Show more

“…In individual cases it can make sense to talk about departmental information systems, ward information systems, information systems of outpatient departments, and of diagnostic areas such as a laboratory and a radiology area (e.g., [6]). On the other hand, it can make sense to regard a research information system (e.g., [25]) or the computer-supported part of a hospital information system as separate units. Such focusing on certain fields as a result of splitting up the hospital information system may be necessary and useful, especially for designing details of information processing in specific areas and for research projects.…”

“…The definitions given here form the basis of methods for managing hospital information systems and for constructing appropriate tools for it. Preliminary considerations on 3LGM are contained in [21][22][23][24][25][26][27]. A more extensive introduction to 3LGM can be found in [28].…”
