On Rate-Compatible Punctured Turbo Codes Design

Abstract:

We propose and compare some design criteria for the search of good systematic rate-compatible punctured turbo code (RCPTC) families. The considerations presented by S. Benedetto et al. (1998) to find the "best" component encoders for turbo code construction are extended to find good rate-compatible puncturing patterns for a given interleaver length . This approach is shown to lead to codes that improve over previous ones, bo… Show more

“…Adaptive coding and Q-ary PAM modulation was further studied in [330] over Gamma-Gamma channels. Adaptive coding can be performed either by using punctured codes, where the coding rate is varied by puncturing a percentage of parity of information bits [334], [335] or through the use of rate-adaptive codes such as fountain codes. Raptor codes, considered in [242], are a special case, where the coding rate is modified by changing the codeword length.…”

“…Incorporating also rate compatibility in punctured turbo codes, by which all of the code symbols of a high rate punctured code are used by the lower rate codes, an enhanced spectral efficiency is reached. This gain is actually provided by Rate-Compatible Punctured Turbo (RCPT) codes [5]. RCPT codes have been employed for HARQ implementations due to the fact that no received information is discarded [6].…”

“…Όπως ακριβώς και στην περίπτωση των συγκεραστικών κωδίκων, η τεχνική της απαλοιφής κωδικών bit μπορεί να μεταβάλει το ρυθμό ενός τούρμπο κώδικα, ενώ η χρήση ενός συνόλου πινάκων απαλοιφής οδηγεί σ' έναν διάτρητο τούρμπο κώδικα μεταβλητού ρυθμού [39,40,41,99].…”
