On preventive maintenance policies: a selection framework

Abstract: PurposeThis paper develops a framework for selecting the most efficient and effective preventive maintenance policy using multiple-criteria decision making and multi-objective optimization.Design/methodology/approachThe critical component is identified with a list of maintenance policies, and then its failure data are collected and the optimization objective functions are defined. Fuzzy AHP is used to prioritize each objective based on the experts' questionnaire. Weighted comprehensive criterion method is used… Show more

“…They identified corrective maintenance (CM), synonymous with breakdown maintenance, as an approach to address equipment failures. In contrast, preventive maintenance (PM) has emerged as a cornerstone strategy aimed at forestalling equipment malfunctions and forming a cornerstone of enhancement in maintenance endeavors [22]. Total productive maintenance (TPM) strategy has garnered considerable attention within this spectrum.…”

“…Over the past decades, several different studies have been conducted on optimizing maintenance activities using analytical methods, mathematical models (Alsyouf et al , 2020) and simulations (Azadeh et al , 2010). However, in some real cases, data are not available to analyze the failure conditions of the machinery and gear and to estimate the useful lifetime (Salehi, 2017).…”
