On Interference Alignment With Imperfect CSI: Characterizations of Outage Probability, Ergodic Rate and SER

Abstract: In this paper, we give a unified performance analysis of interference alignment (IA) over MIMO interference channels. Rather than the asymptotic characterization, i.e. degree of freedom (DOF) at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), we focus on the other practical performance metrics, namely outage probability, ergodic rate and symbol error rate (SER). In particular, we consider imperfect IA due to the fact that the transmitters usually have only imperfect channel state information (CSI) in practical scenario. By … Show more

“…Previous research works considered channel interference as detrimental and sought reasonable channel assignment methods, which is a common choice in resource management [18][19][20][21][22][23][24], and they mainly focused on two kinds of channel interference: one is interference between different communication systems [25], and the other is channel interference with respect to the 802.11 communication system [26].…”

“…For IA based on limited CSI feedback, the throughput of an IA interference network is reduced by the residual interference (due to imperfect IA) compared with perfect CSI [26,27]. To minimize the performance loss, it is necessary to take some effective performance optimization measures.…”

“…It is thus indispensable to directly investigate the achievable rate of various IA schemes. The achievable rate of IA under imperfect CSI are investigated [11][12][13][14][15][16]. In [11], the impact of channel error on the achievable rate of IA was first investigated and closed-form lower and upper bounds of the sum mutual information of IA are derived.…”

“…The work in [14] considered the scenario where the main channel CSI is perfect but the crosstalk CSI is in errors, and obtained a closed-form rate through analyzing the statistical distribution of the saturating SNR. Recently, a comprehensive performance analysis of outage probability, ergodic rate, and symbol error rate (SER) for IA under imperfect CSI was investigated in [15]. Different from the aforementioned work, where the channels are assumed to be uncorrelated, paper [16] studied the achievable rate of IA over correlated channel and derived an analytical upper bound of achievable rate by determining the distribution of per-stream signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR).…”
