On integrable backgrounds self-dual under fermionic T-duality

Abstract: We study the fermionic T-duality symmetry of integrable Green-Schwarz sigma-models on AdS backgrounds with Ramond-Ramond fluxes in various dimensions. We show that sigma-models based on supercosets of PSU supergroups, such as AdS 2 × S 2 and AdS 3 × S 3 are self-dual under fermionic T-duality, while supercosets of OSp supergroups such as non-critical AdS 2 and AdS 4 models, and the critical AdS 4 × CP 3 background are not. We present a general algebraic argument to when a supercoset is expected to have a fermi… Show more

“…The similarity with the N = 4 SYM amplitude and the fact that they obey the same anomalous conformal Ward identities suggests that the ABJM four-point amplitude can also exponentiate [33,34,69]. It has to be stressed that the Wilson loop/amplitude duality and dual conformal invariance are not supported at strong coupling by AdS/CFT arguments [70,43], as it is not clear whether fermionic T-duality could be a symmetry of the dual string sigma model [35]- [41]. Moreover, the duality with the bosonic Wilson loop doesn't extend beyond four points since n-point amplitudes are no longer MHV for n ≥ 6.…”

“…At two loops the planar amplitude can be written as a sum of dual conformal invariant integrals and has been found to coincide with the second order expansion of a light-like four-polygon Wilson loop [33,34]. This points to the fact that a Wilson loop/scattering amplitude duality might exist even if a strong coupling interpretation of the duality is less straightforward [35]- [41] with respect to the four dimensional case [42,43]. Moreover, the two-loop four-point ABJM amplitude surprisingly matches the amplitude of N = 4 SYM theory at one loop [33,34].…”

“…This supercoset action can be viewed as a direct (classical-level) truncation of the AdS 5 × S 5 superstring theory with only 4 bosons and 8 fermions kept non-zero and has several remarkable features. The Z 4 -structure [23] of the superalgebra psu(1, 1|2) implies [24] that this theory is also classically integrable [25] and, in addition, self-dual under the fermionic T-duality [26,27]. In fact, its classical integrable structure is essentially equivalent to that of the N = 2 supersymmetric sine-Gordon theory [28] as the latter is its Pohlmeyer reduction [29].…”

“…On the string theory side the above mentioned T-duality transformation maps between the original and the dual symmetries. For the full supersymmetric string action the standard bosonic T-duality has to be supplemented by a fermionic T-duality in order to map the worldsheet action back to itself [18] (see also some more recent work [19,20]). …”
