On efficiently solving a class of atmospheric radiative transfer problems using discrete ordinates models for bidirectional functions: the uppermost layer

Abstract: We derive discrete models for bidirectional functions defined for the uppermost layer of a multislab model atmosphere. These models can be used to solve efficiently a set of multislab transfer problems characterized by an optically stationary uppermost layer. We illustrate with numerical results for a representative set of multislab problems.
