On effective actions of BPS branes and their higher derivative corrections

Abstract: We calculate in detail the disk level S-matrix element of one Ramond-Ramond field and three gauge field vertex operators in the world volume of BPS branes, to find four gauge field couplings to all orders of α ′ up to on-shell ambiguity. Then using these infinite couplings we find that the massless pole of the field theory amplitude is exactly equal to the massless pole S-matrix element of this amplitude for the p = n case to all orders of α ′ . Finally we show that the infinite massless poles and the contact … Show more

“…Whereas the effective action for a bosonic brane given by [13] and naturally its supersymmetric one was written down by [14][15][16][17][18]. One could read off a review of all the DBI, Wess-Zumino and Chern-Simons action just for BPS branes from [19]. On the other hand, to reveal more about three standard ways of effective field theory of the D-brane action (which contain Taylor expansion-Myers Terms and Pull back), and to learn more about all sorts of higher derivative corrections of non-BPS and BPS branes , we advise the section five of [20].…”

“…In fact it is explained in detail that for BPS (non-BPS) branes all the corrections to D-brane effective actions can just be derived by having the entire form of S-matrix and not by any other tools like T-duality transformation. The reason for this sharp conclusion is that by having the S-matrix we are able to actually fix all the coefficients of the effective field theory couplings (and also their higher order α corrections) without any ambiguities (see [11,12] for BPS and [13,14] for non-BPS branes). In fact, all the three different ways of obtaining the couplings in the effective field theory involving pull-back, Taylor expansions and new Wess-Zumino terms (the generalisation to Myers action) have also been explained in [11].…”
