“…Pejler (1980) summarized studies on variation in the genus Keratella . Relationships between temperature, water fecundity and occurrence of different morphological forms of Keratella cochlearis were recorded by Pejler 1962 ;Hillbricht-Ilkowska 1972Ruttner-Kolisko, 1972, 1974, Lindstrom & Pejler, 1975Eloranta, 1982 ;Pejler & Berzins 1989 . Interesting observations by Hillbricht-Ilkowska (1983) in Lake Biwa showed that not only temperature, but also concentration of food influence the length of the posterior spine of Keratella cochlearis . Pejler (1957Pejler ( , 1962 in Swedish Lakes, Nauwerk (1978) in Lake Ontario, and Hofmann (1980Hofmann ( , 1983 in Holstein Lakes did not notice transitional forms during their investigations on morphological variation in Keratella cochlearis .…”
