In this work we study ten-dimensional solutions to type IIA string theory of the form AdS 4 × X 6 which contain orientifold planes and preserve N = 1 supersymmetry. In particular, we consider solutions which exhibit some key features of the four-dimensional DGKT proposal for compactifications on Calabi-Yau manifolds with fluxes, and in this sense may be considered their ten-dimensional uplifts. We focus on the supersymmetry equations and Bianchi identities, and find solutions to these that are valid at the twoderivative level and at first order in an expansion parameter which is related to the AdS cosmological constant. This family of solutions is such that the background metric is deformed from the Ricci-flat one to one exhibiting SU(3) × SU(3)-structure, and dilaton gradients and warp factors are induced.

We classify the non-supersymmetric, and perturbatively stable within D = 4, AdS vacua of maximal D = 4 supergravity with a dyonic ISO(7) gauging in a large sector of the supergravity. Seven such vacua are established within this sector, all of them giving rise to non-supersymmetric AdS4× S6 type IIA backgrounds with and without non-trivial warpings and with internal fluxes. Then, we analyse the dynamics of various probe Dp- branes in these backgrounds searching for potential brane-jet instabilities. In all these cases, such instabilities are absent. Finally, an alternative decay channel through tunnelling is investigated, focusing on one of the seven backgrounds. We do not find instabilities either, but the analysis remains inconclusive.

We construct AdS 4 flux vacua of type IIA string theory in the supergravity (large volume, small g s ) regime, including the backreaction of O6-planes. Our solutions are the localized versions of the smeared solutions on Calabi-Yau orientifolds studied by DeWolfe, Giryavets, Kachru and Taylor and in other works. We find that the O-plane backreaction in these solutions generates warping, a varying dilaton, non-closed RR field strengths and internal curvature. Just like their smeared counterparts, the localized solutions admit stabilized moduli, a parametric control over string corrections and a parametric separation between the AdS and KK scales. Our explicit expressions furthermore make precise the common lore that smeared solutions should approximate the exact ones in the large-volume, small-g s limit. Finally, our solutions appear to violate a recent swampland conjecture about an absence of scale separation in supersymmetric AdS vacua. We make a simple observation explaining why this happens in these solutions in contrast to most other AdS solutions in string theory.
