Omnidirectional circularly polarized slot antenna fed by a cylindrical waveguide in millimeter band

Abstract: A circularly polarized slotted array antenna is presented. The array is fed by a circular waveguide propagating the TM01, to properly generate the required polarization. An omnidirectional azimuth radiation pattern is obtained, as well as a −10°/+30° elevation antenna coverage. Low losses are achieved because of the waveguide feed. The slot array is mechanized over the metallic wall of the circular waveguide. Furthermore, the antenna presents a solid and rigid mechanical structure, which guarantees an optimum … Show more

“…Adjacent resonant frequencies are selected to be close to each other, which makes the antenna wideband. This technique provides lower gain variation in much wider bandwidth as compared to other similar studies in literature (Masa‐Campos et al, , ; Top & Dogan, ; Turkmen & Secmen, b), which can be considered as the main novelty of this study. Besides, the proposed structure has mentioned superiorities over the other relevant antennas in terms of complexity, compactness, easy integration with other waveguide components, high power capability, high radiation efficiency, bandwidth, and omnidirectional circular polarization performance.…”

“…Sleeve dipole with parasitic elements [1], conformal slotpair arrays fed with TM 01 mode [2], or cross slots fed with two TE 11 modes [3] on circular waveguide have been used to obtain circularly polarized omni-directional antennas. In the presented work, circular polarization is achieved with a conformal single slot element on a circular waveguide, radiating into a parallel plate region.…”
