Omnichannel Communication to Boost Patient Engagement and Behavioral Change With Digital Health Interventions

Abstract: Digital health interventions are being increasingly incorporated into health care workflows to improve the efficiency of patient care. In turn, sustained patient engagement with digital health interventions can maximize their benefits toward health care outcomes. In this viewpoint, we outline a dynamic patient engagement by using various communication channels and the potential use of omnichannel engagement to integrate these channels. We conceptualize a novel patient care journey where multiple web-based and … Show more

“…This may have further long-term benefits: the resulting frequent patient engagement may improve their treatment adherence and BP control, thereby reducing the need for the most resource-intensive in-person clinic visits in the long run. 25 Future studies with longer follow-ups will be necessary to verify this benefit of CURATE.AI. Additionally, the high frequency of touchpoints may be further reduced over time once CURATE.AI profiles are established.…”

“…Furthermore, if users’ need for an adaptive feedback mechanism is adequately met, the burden of data entry will potentially be minimized over time as user will only need to input relevant information when required. Given the potential of wearables and smartphones to continuously track behaviors and acquire ecologically momentary information of individuals, DHIs should continue working towards interventions that are dynamic and adaptable to changing status and contexts 30 , and to the proffered communication channels (e.g., utilizing omnichannel communication) 31 .…”

“…The user can also be their caregiver, doctor, nurse, pharmacist, allied health professional or a combination of these stakeholders. [ 82 87 89 91 ] Properly identifying these stakeholders, developing workflows that are aligned with theirs and behavioural change consideration are essential. These factors should be considered early and not solely at the implementation phase, as it could substantially delay or preclude translation and/or adoption [ Figure 3 ].…”
