Oligometastasiertes nicht kleinzelliges Lungenkarzinom – chirurgische Optionen und Behandlungsstrategien

Abstract: Surgery in oligometastatic non-small cell lung carcinoma is feasible for primary tumour and for metastases. It is an effective option in the multimodal treatment in highly selected patients. The lymph node dissection should remain an important integral part of the surgical treatment.

“…For the treatment of lung cancer, surgical resection, consisting of a lobectomy and complete lymph node dissection, has long been considered the standard treatment for resectable tumors and offers the best curative chance for long-term survival ( 5 ). However, it is estimated that only a third of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are suitable for curative resection ( 6 ). Therefore, non-invasive local treatments that makes it possible to avoid resection of the functioning parenchyma or prolonged general anaesthesia represent a key point in the management of patients who are not eligible for surgery ( 7 ).…”

“…For the treatment of lung cancer, surgical resection, consisting of a lobectomy and complete lymph node dissection, has long been considered the standard treatment for resectable tumors ( 1 ). However, it is estimated that only one-third of patients with non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs) are suitable candidates for curative resection ( 2 ). However, for small cell lung cancers (SCLCs), a histological subtype of lung cancers with unique biological and oncological features that differ significantly from NSCLCs, standard treatment usually consists of systemic chemotherapy and radiotherapy.…”
