“…Compared to previous reviews on this topic (Smith & Wright, 2021), which focused on older community-dwelling SGM adults, our review emphasizes the intersectionality of SGM, AD/ADRD, and LTSS, revealing the additional challenges faced by SGM older adults with AD/ADRD. Despite a growing proportion of older SGM adults who need LTSS, there is a disproportionate lack of research on their care needs.…”

“…Current health status, signs of ageing and attitudes towards ageing were related to women's care plans and concerns regarding intrapersonal factors were associated with older SM women's long‐term care plans. Previous studies on older SM individuals found that self‐perceptions of ageing were not suggested as factors related to long‐term care plans or concerns (Almack & King, 2019; Caceres et al, 2020; Fasullo et al, 2022; Flatt et al, 2022; Garrison‐Diehn et al, 2022; Hua et al, 2019; Inventor et al, 2022; Smith & Wright, 2021). However, many older SM women who held negative views towards ageing had comprehensive financial plans and private long‐term care insurance because of worries about poor physical status and being a burden to their families during older adulthood.…”

“…Previous international studies have indicated that sexual minority (SM) older adults experience physical and mental health disparities, as well as challenges in accessing appropriate long‐term care services and support (Fasullo et al, 2022; Flatt et al, 2022; Smith & Wright, 2021). However, few studies have explored the long‐term care preparations, considerations and influencing factors in older SM women.…”

“…A limited but growing body of literature on older lesbians’ and gay men’s health shows that they may avoid using formal health‐care services for fear of discrimination (Putney et al., 2018). Even when some do attempt to access care, fear of disclosing their sexual orientation and exposure to both overt and subtle forms of heterosexism and discrimination are still commonly reported in senior centres and home care settings (Grigorovich, 2015; Smith & Wright, 2021).…”
