Abstract

In this study, the answer to the question of "What are the stereotypical thoughts of pre-school education teacher candidates about entrepreneurs?" is investigated. The study was conducted with 47 fourth grade undergraduate students studying at a Department of Preschool Education during the 2021-2022 academic year in Turkey. The Draw an Entrepreneur Scale is used as a data collection tool and participants were asked to fill in this scale within 15 minutes. The results were analyzed with the Entrepreneurship Competence Framework (EntreComp) Rubric. The findings show that the preschool teacher candidates’ entrepreneurship perceptions remain at a low level, and their stereotypical perceptions of the entrepreneurial person mostly show a financial entrepreneurship perspective, followed by social and innovative entrepreneurship perspectives respectively. In order to increase the perception and awareness of preschool teacher candidates about entrepreneurs, teachers should be supported to develop an entrepreneurial mindset through undergraduate level courses.
