Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the whistleblowing inclinations of prospective teachers about an ethical problem they may encounter in their professional lives and the differences in inclinations based on gender, seniority and program. By employing survey method, the data were collected from 377 education faculty students using the tool developed in the research. According to findings, even if the ethical problem is considered as serious by the prospective teachers, they may not attempt to solve it, that the internal whistleblowing inclinations are significantly higher than the external whistleblowing inclinations, they prefer to solve the ethical problem in person instead of whistleblowing, they prefer traditional whistleblowing ways instead of social media, they do not need to hide their identities when whistleblowing through social media, the whistleblowing inclinations do not differ according to the gender and seniority but according to the program. It has been proposed to investigate the causes of the results, to include information on whistleblowing in teacher education, and to make legal arrangements to prevent the negative consequences of whistleblowing.
