“…Cancer was associated with PEO in 37 cases (21.76%; 24 Japanese and 13 non-Japanese), among which 25 were solid malignancies and 12 hematological neoplasms (a case of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance [50] and one of myelodysplastic syndrome [40] were also included even if they are actually preneoplastic conditions; table 2). Background: Even after the description of papuloerythroderma of Ofuji (PEO) in 1984, little is known about this clinical entity. Objective:To report on 2 new cases of PEO and review of the worldwide literature on this topic. Methods: Article citations were searched on several biomedical search engines (PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, Google Scholar). Papers were retrieved either online or in print. Results: A grand total of 170 PEO cases were identified. Most patients were older than 55 years and of Asian or white descent, with an overall male/female ratio of 4.0. Itch and the deck-chair sign were observed in all patients. Peripheral eosinophilia, lymphocytopenia and increased serum IgE were common findings. Histopathology mostly showed aspecific inflammation, while 17 showed histological features of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). Atopy, malignancies, infections and drugs were rarely linked to PEO. Conclusion: PEO represents a rather monomorphous entity both clinically and, with the remarkable exception of CTCL, also histologically. Nonetheless, no causative factor could be identified in the vast majority of cases. An etiological classification and diagnostic criteria are proposed in the attempt to contribute framing this puzzling clinical entity.

ÖzetOfuji'nin papuloeritroderması, deri kıvrımlarını tutmayan eritemli yassı papüllerin görüldüğü, yaygın kaşıntılı erüpsiyonla karakterize bir hastalıktır. Sıklıkla yaşlı erkeklerde görülen hastalığa, lenfadenopati, periferik kanda eozinofili, lenfopeni ve IgE yüksekliği eşlik edebilir. T ve B hücreli lenfoma, internal malignensiler, AIDS, atopik dermatit, psoriasis, ilaç hipersensitivitesi ile ilişkisi rapor edilmiştir. Bu nadir hastalığın tedavisinde topikal ve sistemik kortikosteroidler, psoralen-UVA, etretinat-PUVA, asitretin-PUVA, UVB, siklosporin, interferon α ve azatioprin kullanılmaktadır. Bu yazıda Ofuji'nin papuloeritroderması tanısı koyduğumuz 2 olguyu sunmaktayız. ( AbstractPapuloerythroderma of Ofuji is characterized by a pruritic eruption of widespread, red, flat papules that leads to spare skin folds. The disease occurs primarily in elderly men and is often associated with lymphadenopathy, peripheral blood eosinophilia, lymphopenia and elevated immunoglobulin E levels. Association with T and B cell lymphomas, visceral carcinomas, AIDS, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and hypersensitivity to drugs have been reported. Topical and systemic corticosteroids, psoralen-UVA, etretinate-PUVA, acitretin-PUVA, UVB, cyclosporin, interferon α and azathioprine have been used in the treatment of this rare disease. In this manuscript, we described two patients with papuloerythroderma of Ofuji. (Turk J Dermatol 2011; 5: 13-7)
