Off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with significant left ventricular dysfunction

Abstract: IntroductionThe prevalence of patients presenting with severe left ventricular dysfunction is increasing together with an increasing profile of co-morbidities 1 . Severe left ventricular (LV) dysfunction has been reported as an independent predictor of operative mortality in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting 1-4 . Offpump technique has theoretical and practical advantages over conventional coronary artery bypass grafting in this subset of high risk patients. Multiple studies showed that CABG … Show more

“…Using a randomeffect model (Figure 2), the OR was 0.77 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.58-1.02, p = 0.07) with moderate heterogeneity, and with a fixed-effect model the OR was 0.75 (95%CI 0.65-0.88, p = 0.002) with moderate heterogeneity. Eight studies reported the proportion of patients requiring a blood transfusion 18,21,22,[28][29][30][31]36 : 450 of 1063 (42.3%) OPCAB and 1309 of 2268 (57.8%) ONCAB patients. Four studies (with a total of 526 OPCAB and 1169 ONCAB patients) reported estimated blood loss.…”
