Off-line configuration of a MPLS over WDM network under time-varying offered traffic

Abstract: Abstract-Coupling MPLS Traffic Engineering on top of a wavelength-routed WDM layer offers great flexibility to operators to allocate traffic demands in their networks. In this paper we consider the problem of off-line joint configuration at both packet and optical layers. We consider time-variant offered traffic, and assume that the operator has knowledge of the traffic dynamics as a set of traffic matrices at different instants. A novel Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) formulation is proposed, which ta… Show more

“…determining the evolution of the virtual topology from the MH traffic. To the best of our knowledge, the only work previous in the literature on the MH-VTD-R problem variant is [23] which presents a naïve approach for the reconfigurable problem where the VTDs are independently planned in each time interval.…”

“…The work presented in this paper is an extension of the works in [27] and [23], where the aforementioned algorithms were initially proposed. In this paper, we expand the algorithm descriptions, specifically elaborating upon on the theoretical steps that support the LR method.…”

“…In [10], the multilayer problem of mapping a set of lightpaths onto the physical topology and mapping a set of LSPs (Label Switched Paths) for packet switched traffic over the set of lightpaths is considered. They assume known traffic variations and consider that one LSP is required for each flow.…”

“…There are two modes of constructing traffic demand matrices, namely, offline and online or dynamic mode. In offline mode traffic demand matrices are constructed using previously known information about changes in traffic demand as it is described in [2], [3], [6], [11]. The major weakness of this approach is that offline methods do not work correctly if traffic flow changes are different from expectations.…”
