Oestrogen Therapy and Serum Cortisol in Carcinoma of the Prostate

Abstract: Patients with prostatic cancer, receiving oestrogen therapy were found to have elevated serum cortisol levels and lymphopenia. Oestrogens are known to have a profound effect on the immune system; the possibility that this effect is mediated through the adrenal cortex is discussed. The significance of these findings, however, remains to be determined.
