Odróżnienie brodawkowatego raka tarczycy od tkanki nienowotworowej w oparciu o profilowanie lipidów metodą MALDI-MSI

Abstract: Introduction: The distinction of papillary thyroid carcinomas from benign thyroid lesions has important implication for clinical management. Classification based on histopathological features can be supported by molecular biomarkers, including lipidomic signatures, identified with the use of high-throughput mass spectrometry techniques. Formalin fixation is a standard procedure for stabilization and preservation of tissue samples, therefore this type of samples constitute highly valuable source of clinical mat… Show more

“…We found a higher level of molecular similarity amongst thyroid tumors than amongst "normal" thyroid tissue from different patients. A similar observation was reported previously when lipid component was imaged by MALDI-MSI in a tumor and adjacent not cancerous thyroid tissue of PTC patients [39]. These interesting observations could be related to the fact that different pathological conditions (e.g., inflammation-related) frequently exist in not cancerous tissue adjacent to a tumor that was considered here as a "normal thyroid."…”

“…But Wojakowska’s and Guo’s research has yielded different results. Wojakowska’s 12 research using tissues as the material, reached similar conclusions as Guo’s 13 which used serum and tissue as the material. They both have confirmed the diagnostic significance of phosphatidylcholines (34:1) phosphatidic acids (36:3) and sphingomyelins (34:1).…”

“…The development of new diagnostic tools to support cytopathologists in the diagnostic triage of indeterminate for malignancy thyroid nodules can be approached from the alternative perspective offered by proteomics [20,21]. Previous reports enlightened the possibility to apply imaging methods such as MALDI-MSI to cytological specimens to combine the analytical power of traditional morphology and molecular signatures [22].…”
