Ocular Fundus Reflectometry

Abstract

A qualitative method for observation of the light reflected at the fundus was developed by Helmhotz in 1851. However, there was need for quantitative assessment and with the introduction of microprocessors, it was possible to measure spatial and spectral distribution of reflectance. Experimental models of observed wavelength dependence and reflectance of light from macula were initiated. The role of these experimental models using fundus reflectometry in basic and clinical research is summarized in the present chapter.
