Ocena wyników leczenia nagłej głuchoty idiopatycznej z zastosowaniem terapii tlenem hiperbarycznym

Abstract: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the unique method of increasing concentration of oxygen in the inner ear fluids thus facilitates the regeneration process. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy combined with steroids is an effective method of sensorineural hearing loss treatment. Important is to start the therapy quickly after hearing loss.

“…In the groups compared, delaying HBOT more than 10 days from the time of the first SSNHL symptoms was associated with a reduced treatment efficacy at 1500, 3000, and 4000 Hz. This is in line with current scientific evidence [12,20,[23][24][25]. Cavaliere et al demonstrated a complex relationship between the choice of therapeutical strategy for SSNHL and hearing improvement [26].…”

“…Conservative methods include hyperbaric labyrinthine vasodilators (e.g. nicotinic acid), hyperbaric oxygen and carbogen therapy [12] to enhance the oxygen pressure/perfusion to the inner ear. Steroids and low molecular weight dextran have also been used.…”

“…Current state of research does not clearly define recommendations concerning the ISSNHL treatment. There are studies proving that steroid therapy (ST) is beneficial [1][2][3][6][7][8] and its therapeutic role is anti-inflammatory effect. The European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine and the Polish Society of Audiology and Phoniatrics recommend the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), whereas the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society does not endorse this method [7][8][9][10][11][12].…”
