“…This crab is commonly found in the intertidal areas of some tidal flats in temperate Japan. Although their occurrence in tidal flats is limited to the warmer season in western Japan (Kobayashi & Vazquez Archdale, 2017), observation and collection of P. pisum is comparatively easy in their natural habitat. They are found during the daytime actively wandering for long distances on sandy or muddy substrates along the shoreline, and often exhibit their mating behaviour without using shelters or burrows.…”

“…Even ovigerous females usually fold their abdomens so closely to their thoracic part, that presence of embryos cannot be confirmed merely by external observation. These characteristics are considered to be adaptive for wandering and burying themselves in soft sediment, and defending themselves against large predators (Kobayashi & Vazquez Archdale, 2017). Probably their mating behaviour is also specific, in accordance with their life mode.…”

“…The preferences of feeds are changed by time and sex but usually it prefers bivalves especially Arcuatula senhousia and Venerupis philippinarum (Kobayashi 2013 ). At present, this species is considered a threatened endangered species due to reduction of tidal flats (Kobayashi and Archdale 2017 ). In this study, we sequenced the mitochondrial genome of P. pisum and figured out phylogenetic relationship to other organisms through comparative genomics.…”
