Occurrence of Samarskite-Y in the Mineralized Umm Lassifa Pegmatite, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt

Abstract: Samarskite-Y, with an average assay of about 43.23% Nb 2 O 5 and 17.43% Y 2 O 5 has been identified in the mineralized pegmatite bodies injected in Gabal Umm Lassifa monzogranite. The mineral is associated with columbite, zircon, monazite, cassiterite, ilmenite and rutile. The mineralogy and geochemistry of the studied samarskite variety were determined using microscopic examination and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) as well as quantitative analysis by both Field emission scanning electron microscope and electron mic… Show more

“…Generally, the younger granites are considered as a common genetic host for many of the raremetal bearing pegmatites. Several studies have concerned the presence of granite-pegmatitehosted rare-metal mineralization in CED, especially Nb-Ta oxides, thorite and zircon (Hassaan and Kaoud, 1987;Kaoud, 1982, Hussein, 1990Mahdy et al, 1991;Sayyah et al, 1993;Surour et al, 2004and Raslan et al, 2010, Raslan and Ali, 2011and Raslan 2015. Otherwise, a late Precambrian biotite schist and quartzite was also recorded as a rare case country rocks enclosing pegmatite rare-metal mineralization, including cassiterite, Li rich and gemstone minerals in SED (Saleh.…”

“…Rare metal mineralization that recorded in EED are mainly restricted to the younger granite bearing pegmatite bodies (e.g. Abd El Wahed et al, 2006;Abdel Warith et al, 2007, Raslan et al, 2010a andb;Raslan and Ali, 2011;Raslan, 2015 andRaslan andFawzy, 2018).…”

“…Matsubara et al, 1995;Erict, 2005;William et al, 2006 andPal et al, 2007). Rare-metal pegmatites mineralization can be attributed either to magmatic or post-magmatic metasomatic processes (Schwartz, 1992;Abdalla et al, 1998;Raslan andAli, 2011 andAli et al, 2021). Pegmatites occur as sharply bounded homogeneous to zoned bodies within igneous or metamorphic host rocks (Černý and Ercit 2005).…”

“…However, the radioactive mineralization is mainly restricted to the granite pegmatite bodies associated with the monzogranite and syenogranite rocks. The geology and radioactivity of the areas were studied by many authors (Barron, 1907;El-Shazly et al 1974;Eyal 1975;El-Ghawaby 1984;El-Sheshtawy, 1984;Ibrahim, 1991, Bishr 2007Raslan and Ali, 2011;Raslan, 2015 andSallam et al, 2019).…”
