However, Leikola, Nieminen and Salomaa (1965), Louh and Carton (1970), and Rabinowitz, Tavares and Marsh (1972) have shown that nonspurious, significant values for methylated fatty acids are found in a variety of tissues under conditions in which artifacts of transmethylation cannot occur.
