“…Both species occur in trees prior to moving to crops in spring and after harvest in late summer, and in early autumn, they again occupy trees (Honek, , ). They mainly breed in crops (Honek, , ) where they are unlikely to be subject to intensive competition from H. axyridis (Vandereycken et al ., ,b; Honek et al ., ). Very few C. quinquepunctata were recorded on trees during P2 and P3.…”

“…H. axyridis has been reported in all of these crops over Europe and America, as well as in urban landscapes. For example, in Belgium, Vandereycken et al (2013) reported that maize is one of the crops most affected. Some of the most abundant coccinellids in Spanish arable crops (that is, C. septempunctata, H. variegata and P. quatuordecimpunctata) move between alfalfa, winter cereals and maize to follow aphid populations and demonstrate clear patterns of relative abundance (Pons & Eizaguirre, 2009;di Lascio et al, unpublished data).…”

“…In Belgium, 226 the population dynamics of H. axyridis in crop systems (wheat, corn, broad bean and potato crops) 227 was studied through field surveys. It has been shown that H. axyridis is recorded in such crops 7-8 228 days after the dominant native ladybirds (Jansen, Hautier 2008;Vandereycken et al 2013). A one-229 year study involving field observations in wheat and bean crops in southern England reported an 230 absence of H. axyridis in wheat (aphid abundance was reported as low), but presence of H. axyridis 231 co-occurring with other ladybirds in bean crops (Wells 2011).…”
