“…2 The overall FIV prevalence determined for the domestic cat population described here (6.1%) is lower than most previous reports for naturally infected cats in Brazil. 23,[31][32][33] However, the prevalence observed in the present study is similar to studies performed in Minas Gerais and Bahia. 21,25 Nevertheless, it is not possible to compare the prevalence reported in these studies because of the differences in the cat populations studied and the different diagnostic methods used in each study.…”

“…FIV prevalence varies from 3.6% in North America and 3.2-6.6% in Europe (Gleich et Biezus et al 2019). FeLV prevalence of 10.6%, was twice the prevalence found in the city of Fortaleza (5.8%) and much higher than the prevalence found in other northeastern states, which vary from 0.6% in Rio Grande do Norte to 3.0% in Bahia (Martins et al 2015; Barros et al 2017;Lacerda et al 2017;Rocha et al 2019). These data suggest a greater spread of this virus in Jericoacoara Village compared to other cities in the Northeast, since in most other studies the animals studied were cats treated in veterinary clinics and hospitals, which are more likely to be infected with the virus.…”

“…Since its discovery, many studies have been conducted on the prevalence of FeLV in various countries and varying prevalence rates have been reported depending on geographical location (Table 2). This variability in prevalence rates is caused by geographical location, lifestyle [18,9,39], health status [18], population density of cats [9,39], prophylactic measures [14], and various diagnostic laboratory methods [40]. [17] The prevalence of FeLV infection observed in the current study (Fig.…”
