Occupational Epidemiology: Some Guideposts

Abstract

The study addresses about the epidemiology and occupational epidemiology. Epidemiology attempts to determine the etiology or cause of disease and to use that knowledge to prevent or control disease. Occupational epidemiology involves studies of workers to determine if workplace exposures are causing disease. Several aspects of comparisons have been discussed to understand the results of epidemiological studies. The information from epidemiological studies has been utilized for several purposes. Etiologic studies are also found useful when they provide information on exposure‐response relationships and host factors. The discovery of popcorn workers lung has been discussed as example of this purpose of occupational epidemiology and several methods and study designs have been applied to investigate the hazard assessment.
