OC251: Coarctation of the aorta

Abstract: The Y‐shaped π systems in trinuclear cyanines can, through a formal two‐electron transfer, form a core methylenecyclopropane unit with three shorter, isolated π systems (see picture). Studies of the spectroelectrochemistry verify the reversibility of this redox reaction, which has an unusually pronounced electrochromism.
