“…The Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) is a test used to assess basic mobility, balance, and risk of falls in the elderly [49]. A prospective cohort study conducted by our group showed that PD patients with OSA had significantly higher baseline motor MDS-UPDRS [50]. This was consistent with other studies in which motor function was worse in PD patients with OSA [41].…”

“…Sleep issues as well as comorbidities such as depression should be addressed regularly in routine care, which underlines the need for adequate diagnostic and therapeutic tools to address these issues. Complementary, screening for sleep apnea in PD patients, particularly in those with EDS or symptoms of insomnia, should be applied generously to detect SDB as this is mandatory to treat sleep disturbances and might be effective in preventing further cognitive decline and even motor progression ( Kaminska et al, 2018 ; Meng et al, 2019 ). As SDB is a treatable cause for sleep disturbances, patients should be evaluated regarding sleep disturbances more consequently, and treatment options such as positive airway pressure therapy should be applied in these patients.…”

“…Similar studies in other neurological disorders, as well as in the older general population have also defined lower AHI thresholds to account for possible differences in the aetiology of the sleep disordered breathing and to minimise Type I error [ 33 , 35 , 36 ].…”
