“…Species' identification was done at the Laboratory of Applied Entomology of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Dassa-Zoumé. The determination of insect species was based on the use of Coleoptera identification keys of stored commodities Delobel and Tran (1993), Haines (1989), and Halstead (1986).…”

“…Indeed, in closely related and sympatric species, each species is suppressed by addition of the enantiomer produced by the other species, as a system of premating, reproductive isolation (Millar, 2000). The distributions, host plants, and habitats of Callosobruchus species overlap considerably, and the sympatric population of these three beetles also has been reported (Haines, 1989;Tuda et al, 2005). We, therefore, suggest that rigorous mate recognition of C. analis, including antagonistic effects, might have arisen during species differentiation.…”

“…There have been several reports on competitive dominance of C. analis over scramble CaUosobruchus species in stored beans (Haines, 1989;Raina, 1970). However, above discussion shows that the contest species is not necessarily a superior competitor against the scramble species and the competition results depend on both the bean size and the initial density of the competing species.…”
