“…Some useful information, however, has already been gleaned from studies of multispectral data gathered by Landsat, although its sensors were not designed for such purposes. Semiquantitative estimates of suspended biomass were made by Szekielda (1974) in the ocean area off Northwest Africa using ERTS-1 measurements. Using Efts multispectral scanner data, workers were able to observe and semiquantify SPM in lakes [Strong, 1974], rivers [Kritikos et al, 1974], and the marine environment [Klemas et al, 1974;Szekielda, 1974;Szekielda and Duvall, 1976] and interpret near-surface circulation patterns from these data Strong, 1974;Klemas et al, 1974;Szekielda, 1974;Szekielda and Duvall, 1976].
