Observations of radially elongated particle flux induced by streamer in a linear magnetized plasma

Abstract: The streamer-driven particle flux is evaluated experimentally in a linear cylindrical plasma. The streamers, a radially elongated and azimuthally localized structure created in turbulent plasma, really induce ballistic transport, and directly connect the plasma core to the edge within one order faster time scale than that of turbulence. The occurrence of large transport deviates from a Gaussian distribution and is likely to obey a power law. The fundamental plasma experiment clearly shows the significant and e… Show more

“…31,34 This broadening in the f-m space is identical to the bunching of the fluctuation energy in the real space, which results in an azimuthally localized turbulent transport structure. 27 A dedicated comparison study of those experiments and a nonlinear fluid simulation also supports this interpretation. 35 Another coherent peak appears at ðf ; mÞ ¼ ð4:2 kHz; 1Þ, having a narrower spectral shape and a higher spectral peak than the m ¼ 2 drift wave.…”

“…With this discharge condition, the streamer structure is nonlinearly excited by drift waves. [24][25][26][27] In addition, drift waves also excite a sheared axial flow structure which secondarily drives the D'Angelo mode in the inner radii. 16,17 The helium gas injector is illustrated in Fig.…”

“…26) The streamer is a radially elongated structure with the bunching in the azimuthal direction (self-azimuthal focusing), which enhances turbulence transport. 27) This fluctuation state is realized by the modulation of the carrier wave in the direction of wave propagation by nonlinear interaction. The Hankel-SP DMD can decompose these structures.…”
