Observation of the Strong Temperature Gradient in Detached Plasma by PIC Simulation with Monte Carlo Collision

Abstract: In this work, the 1D-3 V particle simulation with Monte Carlo collision and cumulative scattering angle Coulomb collision was developed to study the kinetic behavior of the detached plasma. The constant pressure and temperature of the neutral gas box in front of the divertor target were used in the simulation. The simulation was performed with a fixed upstream plasma density n u ∼ 3 × 10 18 m −3 and a modified large Coulomb collision frequency. When the neutral gas pressure is increased, there is a strong decr… Show more

“…Furthermore, we will investigate the effect of the impurity ion transports by the blob and hole propagations [7,8] on the total transport by the p3bd code. We will apply additional collision models [15,16] and detachment dynamics [17] to the p3bd code and optimize the code for large-scale simulations. These topics are also important in future work.…”

“…In addition, it is important to study threedimensional kinetic effects on filament dynamics with the atomic processes between plasma particles and neutral particles near conductive end plates by means of the PIC-MCC (PIC with Monte Carlo collision) code. 30…”

“…We plan to investigate the dynamics in high ion temperature plasmas as T i /T e > 1 and 3D kinetic effects on the blob dynamics with the large-scale simulations where the self-consistent sheath formation in the vicinity of both edges in the z direction is computed. Furthermore, in future work, it is important to investigate kinetic effects on filament dynamics in the detached state with the PIC-MCC (PIC with Monte Carlo collision) code [22].…”

“…Therefore, the ion Larmor radius is ρ i /ρ si = 0.1, 0.3, or 0.5. In order to confirm some physical properties, any additional collision processes [22] and heat and particle sources are not included in the calculation. Other parameters, e.g., the system size, the number of spatial cells, and the initial blob density amplitude, are the same as those in Ref.…”
