Observation of New States Decaying intoΛc+π

Abstract: Using 13.7 fb(-1) of data recorded by the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we investigate the spectrum of charmed baryons which decay into Lambda+(c)pi(-)pi(+) and are more massive than the Lambda+(c)(2625) baryon. We find evidence for two new states: one is broad and has an invariant mass roughly 480 MeV above that of the Lambda+(c) baryon; the other is narrow with an invariant mass of 596+/-1+/-2 MeV above the Lambda+(c) mass.

“…Recently, the ratio of branching fractions (30) has been estimated by the Belle Collaboration [4]. Combining this with the predicted partial widths of c (2815) and c (2645) in Tables 8 and 9, the branching fraction B( c (2980) + → c (2580) 0 π + ) is evaluated to be about 40%, which is consistent with our direct result of 41.8%.…”

“…Although many experimental and theoretical efforts have [30], and confirmed by Belle in the c (2455)π mode [31,32]. Because both + c and + c excitations can decay through + c π + π − and c (2455)π , we even do not know whether the observed charmed baryon signal around 2765 MeV is the + c or + c state, or their overlapping structure [33].…”

“…A broad structure has been seen previously in the Λ + c π + π − final state that is referred to as the Λ c (2765) + [58]. It could contribute to the D 0 p amplitude if its width is large.…”

“…[9,10,14,71,72]. The chiral Lagrangian involves two coupling constants, g 1 and g 2 , for P -wave transitions between s-wave and s-wave baryons [68]; six couplings, h 2 − h 7 , for the S-wave transitions between s-wave and p-wave baryons; and eight couplings; h 8 − h 15 , for the D-wave transitions between s-wave and p-wave baryons [9]. The general chiral Lagrangian for heavy baryons coupled to pseudoscalar mesons can be expressed compactly in terms of superfields.…”
