Observation ofαdecay from a state in10B at 11.48 MeV

Abstract: We report on the observation of α decay from a state in 10 B at 11.48 MeV. The only observed decay branch is to the first T = 1 state in 6 Li at 3.56 MeV. The apparent absence of an α-decay branch to the (T = 0) ground state in 6 Li suggests that the 11.48-MeV state should be assigned isospin T = 1. The spin and parity of the 11.48-MeV state could not be directly determined from the present study apart from J = 0 being ruled out by the observed angular correlation. We conjecture that the 11.48-MeV state is the… Show more

“…Fortunately, it is possible to partly remove some of these channels. The α+ 10 B channel from the 11 B target has been the subject of a dedicated paper [26], and no narrow (<0.5 MeV) resonances seem to interfere with the data analyzed here. Contributions from relatively narrow states in 5 Li and 6 Li are removed by simply placing gates on the corresponding peaks in p-α and d-α relative-energy spectra.…”

“…As will be shown later, the measured energy spectrum of the α-calibration source is rather well reproduced by the simulation in the full energy range of interest, therefore it can be used to obtain a realistic and physical response function. Since the response function depends on the energy of the particle detected, a set of simulations have been done, discretising the energy window of [2][3][4][5][6] MeV in bins of 20 keV. This window covers the energies of the four emissions of the α source (see Table 2) and the bin is set to half the resolution of the detectors.…”

“…The set-up characterised in this work was designed to become a general and compact detection system for β-delayed charged-particle spectroscopy. It has already been used in a few experiments performed at the ISOLDE a e-mail: enrique.nacher@csic.es b e-mail: olof.tengblad@csic.es c Present Address: Centro de Microanálisis de Materiales, Madrid, Spain facility at CERN: first time to study the β-delayed protons of 31 Ar and 33 Ar [1], this was continued with an experiment for a precise study of the β-delayed α -decay of 16 N [2], and also to study the breakup of 8 Be into two alpha particles following the β-decay of 8 B [3] [4]. All experiments were performed at the Isolde Decay Station (IDS) [5].…”
