Observation of ferroelectric domains in BaTiO₃ by synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction topography

Abstract

Observation of ferroelectric domains in BaTiO3 was performed using X-ray diffraction topography. Thanks to highly parallel X-rays and a high-resolution detector with approximately 200 nm resolution, we successfully measured the two domains, each on the order of 10 um. This system enabled us to measure the local rocking curve of the bulk crystal and generate a width map corresponding to defects, strain, and so on. Such information would be beneficial for understanding the domain behaviors. The present measurement system would be a powerful tool for an in-situ measurement of a process containing the domain control.
