Observation of a difference between polarization and analyzing power in $lambda$$sup 0$ production with 6 GeV/c polarized protons

Abstract: We have measured the polarization, analyzing power, and depolarization parameter for forward lambdas produced with a 6 GeV/c polarized proton beam at the Argonne National Laboratory Zero Gradient Synchrotron. We collected a sample of 15281 A o production events with subsequent PTT-decays. There is a clear difference between the polarization and analyzing power for events with Feynman scaling variable x greater than 0.8. This

“…Polarizations of hadrons produced in high energy reactions have been measured in different connections such as the transverse polarization of hyperons in pp/pA collisions [7][8][9][10][11], the spin transfer of the longitudinal polarization [12,13], the spin alignment of vector mesons [14][15][16][17][18] and the recent observation of the global polarization effect in AA collisions [19][20][21]. The results often bring us surprises and have inspired plenty of studies.…”
