Abstract:Broadband continuum radiation on the order of one erg per 100 cm ' and extending several thousand angstroms outside the gain curve of a Nd: glass laser has been observed and theoretically analyzed to be consistent with an electronic phase modulation process brought about by an intensity-dependent nonlinear index df refraction in the active medium of the mode-locked laser. Possible sideband pulse powers may approach 1 MW for 100 cm ' linewidth. Temporal and spatial synchronization of the sideband and 1.06-p m l… Show more
A neodymium phosphate glass regenerative amplifier is used for both pulse energy amplification and spectral broadening. After compression by a grating pair, 0.55 ps pulses of 11 μJ energy are generated at a 370 Hz repetition rate.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
