Introduction: Obesity is a metabolic disease caused by excessive increase in body fat, resulting from the imbalance of excessive calories intake, energy expenditure and contributing to the advancement of other diseases such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus. Therefore, it is a global public health problem. One of the alternatives for a continuous and effective treatment has been found in phytotherapy, medicinal plants from which compounds are extracted that act both as appetite suppressants and metabolism accelerators, therefore promoting the reduction of caloric intake. Objectives: To evaluate the composition of phytotherapies, relating them to the vegetable species as an alternative in the treatment of obesity. Identifying the cause of obesity, risks and diagnoses. Identifying the bases of phytotherapy and describing their interconnection regarding the prevention and treatment of obesity. Results: With the research carried out, phytotherapy proved to be positive in the prevention and treatment of the pathologies related to obesity. Conclusion: This paper brings a correlation of the effectiveness between the treatment of obesity with phytotherapy and the benefits demonstrated with studies conducted over the years.
