O suporte social e a personalidade são significativos para os objetivos de vida de adolescentes de diferentes configurações familiares?

Abstract

O suporte social tem vindo a ser evidenciado na literatura pela sua relevância no que concerne à planificação e estabelecimento de objetivos de vida de jovens adolescentes. Vivências emocionais adversas no contexto familiar, nomeadamente perdas significativas e transições podem, todavia, condicionar este processo. A presente investigação objetiva analisar o papel do suporte social no desenvolvimento de objetivos de vida de jovens de diferentes configurações familiares (famílias tradicionais e jovens em acolhimento residencial), sendo ainda testado o papel mediador da personalidade na associação anterior. A amostra foi constituída por 350 jovens adolescentes portugueses de ambos os géneros, com idades compreendidas entre 13 e os 18 anos, provenientes de famílias tradicionais e em regime de acolhimento residencial. Para recolha de dados foi utilizado o Social Support Appraisals (SSA), Purpose in Life Test (PIL-R) e o Inventário de Personalidade dos Cinco Fatores . Foram testados modelos de mediação para as diferentes configurações familiares, sendo que os resultados sugeriram que o suporte social apresenta uma associação positiva significativa com os objetivos de vida, e a personalidade desempenha um efeito mediador na associação anterior. Os resultados foram discutidos à luz da teoria da vinculação, considerando a relevância do suporte social no desenvolvimento da personalidade e construção dos projetos de vida. IntroduçãoA literatura tem vindo a apontar que as relações estabelecidas com as figuras significativas são relevantes para a definição de objetivos de vida (e.g., Chu, Saucier, & Hafner, 2010;Samp, Parker, & Duvall, 2006;Schnittker, 2007;Tomé, Camacho, Matos, & Diniz, 2011). Nesta perspetiva, parece pertinente remontar à teoria da vinculação, onde se compreende que o ser humano acarreta uma predisposição intrínseca para o estabelecimento de laços de afetividade que tendem a prolongar-se ao longo do tempo.
